Page Thomas Perrin
Page was born August 12, 1947 in Oakland, California at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital. He attended Montclair Elementary School, Montera Jr. High, and Skyline High School. He went to work for The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. upon graduating high school and worked for them 27 years, retiring at the age of 44. It was the only job interview he ever had. He had perfect attendance his entire career. Soon after being employed he enlisted in the United States Naval Air Reserve. He was stationed at NAS Millington, Tennessee where he was trained as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Technician (AX). For a portion of his training he had the highest grade point average in his class. After training he was then stationed at NAS Alameda, CA with Anti-Submarine Squadron VS-874 as an air crewman in a Grumman S2F Tracker aircraft. Being able to serve his country and still have his job worked out very well for both. He looked forward to the monthly flights and yearly active duty his reserve status afforded him. He was a Third Class Petty Officer (E4) at the time of his honorable discharge. His love of aviation never diminished and when the opportunity to learn to fly hang gliders presented itself, he eagerly took up the sport and enjoyed flying them for over 26 years. He moved to Hat Creek, CA upon retirement because of the excellent flying conditions afforded hang gliders there. While living in Hat Creek he was able to help the Vol. Fire Dept. with fund raising and served the population as a whole with his part time work at a hydroelectric power plant. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a union Steward for the Order of Repeatermen and Toll Testboardmen Local Union 1011, IBEW, AFL-CIO for most of his career. He was a member of the Freemasons. He was an Amateur Extra Class ham radio operator with the call sign KG6JY. He got his Extra ticket when it was still a requirement to send and receive Morse code at 20 words per minute. He was a ham radio Volunteer Examiner. He held a FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License. He was a long time member of the Hat Creek Rifle and Pistol Club. After he got his first computer he learned to build and repair them. He was a sidecar monkey for a time and raced at tracks like Riverside, Laguna Seca, and Sears Point. He held an Advanced (Hang 4) hang glider rating. His hobbies included RC aircraft, stained glass, leather tooling and tanning, woodcraft, blacksmithing, welding, quilting, drum making, archery, black powder shooting, reloading, motorcycle touring, home brewing, and astronomy. He never spent a day of his life in a collage classroom and was for the most part self-taught in any endeavor he undertook. He is survived by his brother Robert F. Perrin, his beloved canine companions who shared his life on a daily basis, and the best friends any man could possibly wish for.
